So you have a boat or are thinking of buying one. When you find out the total cost do not forget to buy the power boat insurance. Sometimes it is impossible to avoid the purchase of fund in your company you have the demand, especially if you use it as collateral.

You should always power boat insurance. This is a necessary cost of owning a boat and the power it needs to be done responsibly. May in the long or even short term, save money.
The world of power is a complicated boat insurance. It is basically an unregulated industry varying from state to state. An incomplete understanding can lead to serious mistakes avoidable by devoting time to examining different aspects of you and your boat and the investigation of the company.
Note! Not all ships are equal to an insurance company. Power boat insurance can vary according to materials of the craft – boats of wood, the increased rates and types. That should be no surprise that racing boats can command a high rate of insurance.
It is also necessary to visit the company and its records. This can be done by checking the credentials of the company with state agencies or visit their local Better Business Bureau. If you already have a car or a house with the policy of a company, know their insurance rates and political power boat.
To help you decide what policy to take the power boat and the insurance company to examine, read and understand your policy. Does full coverage? After a hurricane or a tornado, many boats have been abandoned by their owners because their policy does not give them money, even to save their boats.
That there are varying degrees of coverage and be sure to ask questions about what is and what is not covered. If you have a fuel spill that are covered? If you sail offshore, are you covered? His policy of allowing the third party liability coverage? If the person drives the boat has an accident and who will pay for damage to the boat to another vessel or object and the people involved? Can the insurance company to ship specific answers you are asking? Is evasive? Listen carefully and consider which company offers the best coverage
Another important factor in the power boat insurance is to calculate the value of your boat. An insurance company can provide you with a policy geared towards the agreed value or actual cash value. The agreement covers the replacement value of their power boat. The actual cash value which considers the boat in terms of deprecating a factor of around 10%. In most cases, the agreed value is the best policy.
Here are some questions to consider when purchasing boat insurance power. There are others who appear to you to research and consider that their vessels and needs.

It?s undeniable that backpackers in general are rather thrifty creatures. This is completely understandable. From the moment you hit the road your bank balance goes into flat spin, each day plummeting closer toward harsh letters from the bank manager. In essence, the size of your bank balance will directly affect the time you have to experience the wonders that life on the road can bring.

For the most part, budgeting begins the moment you step from your front door and into the unknown. But why not start this trend a little earlier? Surely if you can save a few dollars in the preparation stage then there will be a little more in the pot for your forthcoming adventure.

And with that in mind, here are 5 ways to ensure you start that journey with both a healthier road fund and greater peace of mind.

1.	Rucksack waterproofing. There are many shiny options here ? of which vacuum sealing, space making bags, kayaking dry bags, and rucksack rain covers are but a few. So what do you opt for? The cheapest thing that does the job, of course. Rain covers are out because they are just that, Rain covers. Not only do many of them look the same, which can lead to confusion if your pack ends up as one of a large pile ? as sometimes happens when you are on a heavily trodden backpacking route ? but if your pack ends up in the drink as you embark/disembark a boat then you may still be sitting in wet underpants and updating your soggy journal the same evening.

To avoid this, line the inside of your pack with a large, durable, plastic sack. It?s such a simple concept, yet seldom utilised. A well washed out agricultural fertilizer sack is first class, but there are many other similar types out there, such as refuse or rubble sacks, that may be more suitable for your style of pack. When full, roll the top down a few turns and fold the remainder over, tucking it tightly in the space between the inside of the pack and the outside of the waterproof bag.

Never again will you worry about putting your pack on the roof of a Honduran Chicken Bus in monsoon season. Instead, you can opt to either rest easy with your latest book or just wallow wholeheartedly in the palpable malaise evoked by shoehorning four adults onto a seat primarily designed for two schoolchildren.

2.	Rucksack security. Sakbags (lockable bags in which to put your pack), Pacsafes (slash proof wire meshes that cover your pack) and Wrapsafes (cables to wrap around/secure your pack) are among the many arrangements on offer to the security conscious traveller. Most have their merits and do the job admirably. Unfortunately they aren?t cheap, whereas I am.

Several lengths of multistrand steel wire (off the roll from many hardware stores) about 3mm diameter or so and around 50 to 100cm long will serve the purpose.

Fold one end back on itself to form a small loop and slide a collar cut from a length of copper pipe over the two bits of steel wire that are now side by side. Choose a diameter of copper pipe that is snug when over the two bits of steel cable. With the collar in place, simply crimp it as tight as possible in a vice ? hey presto, one secure loop. Repeat this on the other end and you have a ?padlockable? strop. Photos of the finished article can be found on the www.ubertramp.com blog.

Make one for your pack, one as a leash to attach your now secure pack to a permanent fixture (such as a stoned hippy on Lake Atitlan, Guatemala), and a couple of spares to see you through.

All these gadgets are by no means impenetrable, but they serve as a good deterrent for would be thieves. It may sound a little cutthroat – but if it makes your pack less attractive than the one next to it then it?s served it?s purpose. It?s a quick and easy method of affording you a better night?s sleep – be it in a 12 man dorm in New York or on the sleeper train between the Thai Islands and Bangkok. In addition, this cheapo method is a little more subtle than the commercial offerings. It states that ?I?m not easy pickings? but doesn?t scream ?valuables inside!?.

3.	Valuables. Most people these days will travel with some form of gadgetry ? be it iPods, Digital cameras and spare memory cards, Memory sticks, or other such items. If you want to prolong their life and protect them, then I have one word for you. Tupperware. Procure a couple of small, airtight containers and the world is your oyster. Now there?s a statement if ever I heard one.

With so many different shapes and sizes available you are sure to find one almost tailor made to the traveller?s needs. Not only are they such an inexpensive way protect sensitive electronic goods and afford a durable shell for smaller breakables, but they are a great place to keep all the odds and ends that inevitably accumulate after months on the road. Embrace Tupperware and gone will be the days of hopelessly foraging for your padlock key amongst the fluff, shards of broken soap and candy wrappers that will eventually dominate the bottom third of your rucksack. To some, this prospect of a semblance of order may come as welcome news, to others it may be perceived as an invasive and unnecessary evil. If this is so, then I will apologise to them in person the next time I drop by to unlock my rucksack.

4.	Toiletries. Again, this one is very simple, but extremely effective. Forget bulky toiletry bags ? too much space and too much weight. It really does all add up. Three plastic bags do a fine job. One to wrap up your toothbrush/toothpaste, one to wrap your soap, and another to put those in along with any other sundries you may have. The beauty of the bags is not only the weight and space it saves, but also the damage containment factor should you do have a blow out on one of your bottles/tubes whilst going from A to B. Sure, a plastic bag will inevitably get a little slimy from soap after a while, but they are all replaceable. If, however, you are worried about the environmental impact that this may have, then use an existing bag that someone else is going to discard. Cheap and a little green to boot ? who could ask for more?

5.	Documents. We all have to carry some form of documentation ? passports, photocopies of traveller cheque numbers, birth certificates and the like. They are all valuable documents that enable us to travel, and can even get us out of the poo from time to time, so its well worth keeping them in good order.

And although we now all have a rucksack so waterproof that we could sit on it and paddle from Borneo to the Philippines, it doesn?t stop ourselves, and therefore our precious paperwork, from getting soaked through. This is why a handy roll of A5 size ziplock (or similar ? read cheaper) bags are invaluable. A passport, a few dollars, and some well folded photocopied documents slip into an A5 sealable bag perfectly. They offer excellent protection against penetrating sweat, sudden downpours, and my pitiful inadequacy in a kayak. Only costing pennies for a big bundle, you can take more than you think will suffice thus enabling replacement when they wear out. I don?t know where I would be without them ? probably in an Indonesian Prison, but that?s a tale for another day.

Some may argue that some or all of these items are unnecessary. I agree that you could travel without them and save yourself the outlay of a few pennies, but in view of the increased protection and security that these small measures afford, I wouldn?t leave home without them – and for me to choose functionality over frugality, they?ve got to be good?

Back in 1997 a term called softswitch was invented and softswitches were software programs designed to replace the traditional hardware switchboards used by telephones. Softswitches serve as the gateway between two telephone networks. This really was the fuse that started the VoIP frenzy.

VoIP is sometimes called Broadband Telephone and often just Internet Telephone Service. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol and it shook up Telecoms about as much as the first laws that ended Ma Bells monopoly of telephone service.

With an even more impressive bang the new Satellite TV to your PC technology is shaking up the cable TV industry. This Internet TV technology, though it has grown popular recently, has been around for many years.

The very first television episode that was broadcast over the Internet was ABC’s World News Now, back in 1994 and year later the term IPTV or Internet Protocol Television was first used. IPTV is a broadcast, delivered and received through the technologies used for computer networks and not traditional broadcast used in cable formats.

Since 1995 the technology has grown by leaps and bounds and the key is that TV to PC technology has been perfected during the age of global commerce, meaning global competition. This is great for the end user because in a global market the thing that normally makes the biggest impact, is cost.

TV to PC is making an impact because it is very low priced when compared to traditional cable or satellite TV. Because of global competition the now commonly called Internet TV providers only charge a user one time, because that’s what the competition is geared around and that’s what the market expects.

This is a case where Global competition has truly worked in the end users favor and greatly. Already millions of people have paid their one time download fee and gotten rid of their monthly cable or satellite bills.

However, like me, you may have seen it and didn’t believe it was true… I didn’t believe it was possible to get worldwide channels because it sounded too good to be true… And you know what mother warned us about!

Understand, I come from the old school where you pay every month for Cable TV and you got a limited number of channels. So when I hear about over 4,000 channels, millions of free movies we can download anytime we want, with no limits. Then to top it all off we only have to pay one time for the service and never pay another thin dime… Then yeah, it sounds too good to be true.

That said, I was so impressed with the quality of the channels, the number of the channels and the small cost that I canceled my cable TV service the very next day.

TV to PC is rocking the cable providers’ boat because global competition is forcing the Internet TV providers to offer great quality, tons of features and more and more channels daily to stay competitive.

Here’s a big thumbs up to global competition.

Boarding the Catalina Express at Dana Point, we have the feeling we’re going to escape Southern California traffic and congestion in VERY short order. We are right. Within minutes, we’re “at sea” in the channel between Los Angeles and Catalina Island – no horns honking, no crawling along the freeway and no worries.

We’re on our way to Avalon, the picturesque little town built near the southern tip of Catalina Island. It’s just a 75-minute ride from the dock at Dana Point, and even a shorter distance from other points closer to L.A. Our slight trepidation about potential seasickness quickly evaporates as we see how well our sleek craft cuts through the moderate waves on what will become a perfect sunny Southern California day.

Along the way we see merchant vessels as well as a half-dozen or so 30-odd-foot pleasure craft obviously rigged for fishing and congregating at what must be a prime fishing ground. Later, to the port side we run a race with dozens of dolphins who seem intent on showing that anything man can do, they can do better.

Arriving in Avalon, the colorful, ornate – and, yes, expensive — homes arrayed on hillsides and mountain tops combine with the myriad of boats and other sea-going vessels to create the impression we have just been transported to the French Riviera. Not bad considering a roundtrip ticket on the Express was only about 45 bucks and when all is said and done, we’ll be home tonight for dinner.

But it’s obvious from the gear being packed off the Express that there are many more overnighters than daytrippers. On this particular voyage, the hold is chock-full of suitcases, packs, tents, coolers and everything that would allow one to wander off and get to know the island upclose and personal.

For us it’s a quick diversion from the rat race. We soon get our bearings on Crescent Street, the aptly-named street that follows the contour of the harbor. About six streets intersect with Crescent, all heading mauka (island-speak for “toward the mountains”). It’s in this tiny little grid that you find most of the shops, restaurants and other tourist services.

We’re traveling as a family today – mom, dad and three-year-old – so it’s a burger joint for lunch. But the burgers are tasty and quite reasonably priced. You’ll also be able to find finer dining and pricey menus to go with it.

On this warm summer day there is an abundance of families visiting with kids of all ages. But it’s also not difficult to find couples holding hands or checking into one of several boutique inns, or frolicking in the unusually warm ocean. In fact, it’s not much of a stretch to say that Catalina is good for both romantic couples and families. They peacefully co-exist on this little island, and neither experience seems negatively impacted by the other.

As Gwen Bronson explains, there are many opportunities for a couple to slip away on the island and do what romantics do. The many hotels and inns, just by themselves, are pretty darn romantic and, as Communications Director for the Catalina Chamber of Commerce, Gwen’s doing her job to point that out. But she’s also figuring we might want to look at one of several romantic adventures such as sea kayaking up the coast. In a very short distance you will find a beach that is not accessible by anyone who does not have a boat.

“Just visit the market and pick up your picnic lunch first and go about a half hour up the coast,” she says. “Ninety-nine percent of the time, you’ll have the whole beach to yourself.”

Or rent a golf cart and drive the many roads around Avalon – just $40 an hour. Horseback riding is always good for a romantic mood, as long as it doesn’t create any physical limitations. Botanical gardens are here for communing with Nature.

Like most visitors to Catalina, we find plenty to keep us occupied for the day. We enjoy people-watching in the outdoor cafes and exploring the winding roadways that climb out of Avalon to spectacular views of the harbor. In general, we just soak up this island atmosphere, recognizing it may be a while longer before we get back to the real French Riviera or anywhere else in the world with such island charm.

Our day on the island goes by quickly and the trip back to Dana Point is a relaxing end to a perfect Southern California daytrip. Soon we are back in San Diego, completely refreshed and relaxed, and ready to share stories about our daytrip to the “Riviera”.

AT A GLANCE

Where: Catalina Island is about 26 miles west of the L.A. area. There are four boat companies that service Catalina from seven ports in Orange and Los Angeles counties.

What: Catalina Island offers many recreational activities ranging from deep-sea fishing to horseback riding to hiking to snorkeling. There are also many attractions such as submarine rides and golf cart rentals.

When: Catalina is a great destination year-round, although the lowest prices are in the shoulder season, April-May and September-October. Most hotels offer lower prices then, but combo packages help reduce the overall cost of lodging and transportation any time of year.
Walleye have become such a sought-after catch for many anglers, leading to a need for guidance on walleye fishing gear to use, including which equipment to use based on the size that you are targeting, as well as the location where you are trying to fish. Having some suggestions regarding the best walleye fishing gear you can opt for could make your fishing trip very different.

The rod and reel should be your first consideration because the strength and properties of these are going to make a huge difference in the ease with which you are able to bring in the walleye. Opt for a spinning rod and reel in order to make use of jigs and light cranks, as these are the most common lures to have in your walleye fishing gear, and it is vital to have the appropriate equipment to make use of them. Your reel’s drag should be smooth to assist in doing battle with these fish. Make sure the spinning reel you purchase is rated for 8-10 pound test line, and use monofilament line. Select a rod made out of graphite and rated for medium action. The model you choose should range between six and a half to seven feet in length, allowing you to troll away from your boat by a few feet. Make sure it has increased sensitivity in the upper third of the rod, with a stiffer lower half. These components together add up to a deadly combination for walleye.

This walleye fishing gear should be supplemented with the additional equipment for which the baitcast rod/reel combo is able to handle. The combination of your rod and reel should give you the option to use heavier line and bigger lures to catch bigger walleye. You can count on the design to actually allow you to use 12-14 pound test line. Keep in mind that the spinning rod and reel combination is great for all styles of fishing, including casting, bottom bouncing, and trolling.

In order to use the rod and reel, you need to be concerned as to what size and type of lures and bait you carry with your walleye fishing gear. Of course, there are several types of baits and lures that will work well in various instances, which means you should have some of these in your tackle box. Crankbaits, for example, are a staple of your tackle box if you are a walleye fisher because of how realistically they can mimic the fish that the walleye feed on. Bottom bouncers and walkers are also quite popular for fishing for walleye, since they sink and literally bounce along the bottom of the water structure. This immitates the way a minnow or leech might appear naturally and also sends out vibrations in the water that walleye can pick up when other fish can’t, attracting the walleye own environment.

Obviously, there are hundreds of various crappie fishing boats geared toward making fishing easier and more efficient for anglers. However, upon reading reviews from various anglers and hearing about the options, advantages, and disadvantages of different boats, you’ll find that there are some manufacturers that are preferred by the most frequent fishermen.

Of all the articles you’ll find about choosing a crappie fishing boat, most will agree that a Procraft is an excellent choice for the sport. While various features of a boat are important to different anglers for different types of fishing a crappie fishing boat must have an excellent trolling motor. In the 1980’s, the Procraft used an Evinrude motor that was perfect for this purpose; a 17 foot boat was pushed by a 150 horsepower motor that allowed the boat to pop up on the surface on plane quickly. Because no one wants the noise or the intrusion of a crappie fishing boat to disturb the crappie, this is important in the eyes of many anglers.

Because a crappie fishing boat is typically not used for any other purpose, it doesn’t have to be large. In fact, many anglers prefer to keep their boats fairly small, perhaps between 15 and 17 feet at the largest. This allows for plenty of room for one or two fishermen in the boat with all of the equipment, a nice outboard motor, and room leftover for the maximum catch allowed in a day at the particular lake you choose to tap.

As for special features of a crappie fishing boat, there aren’t many that are necessary or even appeal to anglers. Most crappie fishermen tend to prefer keeping life simple. However, if there was a little something extra that might catch the eye of a crappie fisherman, it would be a rack for multiple poles to be cast at once for trolling. Since more lures trolling at various depths in the water mean more opportunity to catch crappie, most true anglers will cast at least six lines at a time, and some will drop over a dozen. In order to best control all of these poles, they will build a specialized rack to assist in maintaining the lines. A boat that already has such a rack would be a dream for many anglers.

However, because these fishermen intend to use their crappie fishing boats for years and put hundreds of hours on them, the most important things are that the boat is sturdy and durable, and that the engine will hold out for a long time. If these two things are true of a crappie fishing boat, it is likely that the boat is ideal for use by most fishermen.

Since the dawn of mankind fishing and catching the largest and most fish has always been on most men’s mind. So it is with ice fishing in the Northern U.S. states and Canada. In an effort to catch “that big one” as well “more fish” new technologies and techniques have advanced and evolved. Many of these techniques and tactics are thought fresh, copied and some say even “stolen” from the ice fisherman’s fall/spring / summer “open water” fishing cousins and some even say “competitors”.

To begin with and to note with caution – the first rule of ice fishing is to return home intact with your catch, or sometimes lack of catch. Safety is more than paramount.

Always remember that even though you feel safe on the ice – that in one flash you can be in the most dangerous, deadly frozen environment on earth. Ice cold water is the most deadly water on earth to all human beings on earth and ice fisherman.

It never hurts to play it safe. Remember first of all that “first ice” is “dangerous ice”. Ice can be inconsistent during the first phases of freezing. Even though the ice looks safe – it may not be in certain icy patches. Best to wait till the ice is good and solid.

It is always best for safety for ice fisherman to fish in groups – rather than alone. However spread out the weight of your fishing party and gear. As a rough guide ice fisherman should keep 50 feet apart on the fishing ice. As for general ice thicknesses for safety concerns they are as a rough guide – 4 inches of ice thickness is base minimum.

If fishing with support vehicles – ATV’s or snowmobiles then 5 inches of ice thickness is the base minimum ice thickness recommended for safe and sound ice fishing.

The advances in ice fishing technologies in 2007 seem to focus on the concepts that ice fishing is a different sport and a “different kettle of fish” than its summer sport and needs to be adapted for that.

Summer fishing seems to be more of a stay put in the boat or on shore type of fishing. The feeding and resting habits of fish seem to be located in certain spots and holes.

Whether this is for temperature, water flow and geography and nutrient flow is a good question. Even though it is most cold in the dead of winter, you might think the fish the ice fisherman is hunting in the dead of winter simply lie dormant on the lake or river bottom. This is not so. The fish act entirely differently during the cold winter ice periods.

Ice fish seem to be more mobile than fish during the warmer time periods. They move around more. True their overall travels may be less over the lake regions, however in their limited areas they move around a lot more. An ice fisherman pegged down to only hole in the ice, in one specific location is at a major disadvantage.

Modern technologies and materials, adapted from the space race are being used and applied for the successful ice fisherman.

First of all, small one man portable ices fishing huts or shelters have been developed. Incredibly light, easy to carry and setup these small, portable one man fishing huts allow the successful ice fisherman to quickly and promptly move his camp – for greater ice fishing success.

How does the ice fisherman know where to move his gear? After all a change is not always as good as a rest.

Again modern technology comes into play. Sonar fish fishing equipment has been specifically targeted with the ice fisherman in mind. Older “flasher “type sonar fishing gear is best for this purpose. Instead of the newer, more expensive LCD graphing gear, flashers give an immediate, real time fix on the fish and their movement and motions.

Fish can be more than promptly spotted, their locations gauged the ice fishing holes can then be quickly and promptly dug in the correct places with real time, rather than more dated and less accurate and timely information.

As well there are additional benefits to the ice fishing specific fish sonar locaters.

The winter ice fisherman is a better position to both judge the location, motion as well as feeding and general habits of the fish that being tracked.

Generally with ice fishing predator fish strike upwards to grab the bait. The flasher sonar’s tip off the fisherman as to exact depth of the fish in question so that the fisherman’s bait can be placed correctly above the fish.

Standard practice now is those Ice fishermen generally drill several fishing holes. The ice fishing sonar kit can easily be moved from spot to spot to get a quick fix of where the fish are and are not. Successful catches rather than empty catches are now the norm.

Lastly the Ice fishing specific sonar “flasher ” fishing gear are not only less expensive than the newer “LCD” sonar fishing types but also more trouble free and easier to operate in the frigid cold weather. LCD screens generally work on heat principles so that the very cold weather is not an issue with the “flasher” types.

At the end of the day – the successful ice fisherman can boat of two things- good companionship and a healthy rewarding catch of fish for the event.

When you plan any sort of trip, there are certain items that are necessary to make the excursion a pleasant one, especially on hunting and fishing trips. When you decide to go saltwater fishing, gear is extremely important, since it is not like taking a trip to the local pond where you can simply return home and grab what you forgot or swing by the local store and pick up some extra lures. Saltwater fishing gear needs to be inventoried and verified prior to setting out from the coastline because it is highly likely that you’ll be out all day on the water with no chance of returning for replacement gear.

Start by checking your gear for defects, so that you don’t end up with a rod and reel that are rusted and falling apart just when you catch that whopper and are trying to pull it in. You want to be sure that you have plenty of the right size and type of hook, depending on the type of fish you will be targeting. You also want to identify what type of bait or lures you intend to use and make sure you have enough of this saltwater fishing gear to provide you a plentiful catch.

Don’t forget to check more than just your tackle; make sure that all parts of your boat are in good working condition – your boat is probably the most important piece of gear that you own. When you are fishing the freshwater, you’re usually never more than a mile or two from shore, and it is relatively easy to paddle back in should the engine fail or flood. However, when you are out on the ocean, you may be several miles from land and may be stuck if your engine gives out.

Other gear that you should be carrying is mostly related to safety. You should never leave the coastline without a life jacket for everyone in the boat, and you should be sure not to overload your boat – every vessel has a maximum weight limit, and carrying too many people can put everyone in danger. Be sure you also have a compass because when you can’t see land, it can be surprisingly easy to get lost. Note also that, because you will be out in the bright, hot sun, saltwater fishing gear should include personal items such as sunblock to protect your skin from harmful UV rays and lots of water and other fluids to prevent dehydration. Note that beer is NOT a hydrating substance and, while enjoyable, could lead to problems when spending a long day fishing in the sun.
